Activity Steps

Next (3 minutes), they invent two characters with contrasting skills (like Lina the researcher and Yadi the filmmaker) and jot one sentence describing each. Then (12 minutes), students write their opening page: they must begin with a character discovering the mystery object, include at least one line of dialogue that reveals character personality, and end their page on a question or cliffhanger that makes a reader want to turn the page.
